Welcome Reuben into the Ross family
I had the fantastic chance to spend some time with Sam and Daniel to help welcome Reuben into the Ross family. This would have to be my first lifestyle newborn family shoot. I had met Sam through Toowoomba’s Mumenpreneurs and asked if she wouldn’t mind me coming in and taking some photos of her new family with the understanding I really didn’t know what I would capture. Being able to go without the stress of a paid client I could relax and just enjoy the pure energy of the home.
I rocked up to their home and was greeted by Zander and Corbin at the front door. They proudly told me they were having their photos taken today and were quite excited. Next I met Daniel who was holding little Reuben and I quickly realised I had forgotten how tiny they were, Sonny and I have two of our own but they are teenagers now. All bundled up and asleep laying on Daniel’s shoulder.
So I quickly got out my camera and it was on! Action stations and moments to capture left right center up down and everywhere. It was so thrilling to run around and keep an eye out for moments. I noticed they had a Staffy named Indie and she was a blue. We have a staffy a chocolate brindle staff and they are just the most loyal dogs and love kids. So we went outside and played with some bubbles. Kids always love bubbles. I love how their little cheeks fill with air and they think the harder they blow the bigger the bubbles. Lol. Even Indie got into the game and jumped everywhere trying to eat the bubbles.
Being unique is wonderful
Once things settled and I could just sit on the floor and really get down to what the kids were seeing (some would say I’m that short I am already there) that is when I captured some beautiful intimate moments. Did you notice Zanders odd shoes? He loves it this way. Even though they are two rights. Made me giggle. Apparently this is how he likes to wear them.
Quiet time YES there was some
We managed to get some quiet time as well for Mumma Sam and Reuben which was lovely. And I think the benefit of just being is really important as these sessions are about real life. Not poses as such. So the kids need time to gel with you and be able to relax and just be themselves. So I knew this occurred when I could just sit on Zander’s bed and capture Daniel playing lego with Corbin and Zander. These are precious moments to look back on as we are so much in a hurry to get things done and we forget to just sit and play.
I must admit it was hard to get all three of the boys in the one spot but I did it! The classic lay on the bed and I like how I managed to get them both to be looking at sleeping Reuben. I do not know how he was sleeping through all the bumps and jumping around. Amazing what they can sleep through. I wish I could sleep through the noise like that.
It was such an honour to take these first lot of photos for Sam. And I think I hit it off with Corbin as I got a right royal kiss on the hand when I was leaving. He will be a keeper lol.
What do you think?
So my first lifestyle shoot guys. What do you think? I hope to be able to be given the privilege in future.
