Sensual contemplation is how I would sum up my afternoon with the lovely artistic Kiarn. I wanted to test my skills and create some moody yet sensual Black & White Rim Light Photography which was different to my personal style of light and airy or food. Sonny has been doing amazing work out in the field and in the studio whilst on leave however that is for another session.
Basically this is rim lighting and the purpose is to allow the shapes and touches of light escaping around the body to create the outlines and give a suggestion only. We used a range of light modifiers on our strobes to play and craft the light. You will see some are soft and the shadows fall of gradually and in other areas the light is crisp and forms a sharp outline to kiss the body.
Kiarn was great to work with and before hand I had told her I want to create the feeling of contemplation and not the normal provocative poses. I wanted to capture a sense of vulnerability yet hidden passion. Flow posing worked well here to enable a natural feel from the body. Sometimes we missed a motion however I was very happy with what we got. Flow posing is when you continuously move in slow sequential movements, ever so slightly changing the positions and expressions and the trick is to watch for the shapes as the light glides and peaks over the outline of the body.
In post production I didn’t want to alter the shape or features of Kiarn. She had specifically described how she was proud of her body and this was who she was. I loved the fact she did not want me to hide anything and leave it as it is captured. So I basically just darkened some areas and lightened others to enhance the moodiness or bring focus to a particular area.
Happy to hear your feedback. I know this one was a little more artistic however if you know anyone who would like a session in our studio, send them our way.
